paseando y conociendo la cultura e historia del estado Portuguesa. El Santuario de nuestra patrona, es uno de los lugares más importantes del
estado, no solamente por la fe y por ser un lugar de peregrinación a nivel
mundial, sino por su increíble arquitectura.
El
Santuario Nacional a la Virgen de Coromoto, se construyó en el lugar de la
segunda aparición, en donde se ubicaba la choza del indio Coromoto y su esposa,
en las cercanías de la ciudad de Guanare, Capital Espiritual de Venezuela.
Hemos
recogido información de varios sitios web sobre la historia de esta impactante
estructura. Les ofrecemos a continuación un resumen de lo que nos pareció más
resaltante:
El
Obispo de Guanare, Monseñor Ángel Polanchini, en el año 1975 invitó a la
congregación de las Siervas del Santísimo Sacramento a fundar la Casa de Retiro
Nuestra Señora de Coromoto. Fue entonces, cuando esta agrupación de monjas toma
la iniciativa de llevar la propuesta a Roma para la creación de un templo en
veneración a la Virgen de Coromoto.
La
imponente edificación, de cuatro mil metros cuadrados y altura variante entre
68 y76 metros, proyectada por Erasmo
Calvani, se inició en 1982, y en su ejecución se presentaron algunas
dificultades económicas, dada la magnitud de la obra y las 200 hectáreas que
conforman la propiedad del templo. Adicionalmente, la zona presentaba serios
problemas de drenaje que atrasaron la conclusión de la obra, pero que
posteriormente fueron subsanados con la construcción de la Represa de Tucupido.
La obra concluyó finalmente en 1996, 14 años después de iniciada.
El
edificio consta de tres partes principales. En el primer piso se encuentra el
Altar Mayor, en forma de bohío, con vitrales maravillosos de Guillermo Márquez,
donde se representa toda la historia de la Virgen en tierra portugueseña. Del
lado izquierdo está el Altar Reserva del Santísimo Sacramento. Del lado
derecho, el Altar de San Juan Bautista. Cuenta además con un mirador metálico,
a 32 metros de altura, donde puede apreciarse la llanura en toda su
magnificencia.
El
templo de 4000 metros cuadrados, tiene
capacidad para 2500 personas, y cuenta con un enorme estacionamiento y áreas
verdes alrededor, ideales para descansar o cargarse de energía. El 7 de Octubre
de 1944, S. S. Pío XXII, declaró a nuestra Virgen Llanera, “Celeste y Principal
Patrona de toda la República de Venezuela”, su coronación canónica se celebró
en 1952.
El
Templo Votivo de Guanare, fue consagrado como Santuario Nacional Nuestra Señora
de Coromoto el 7 de enero de 1996, e
inaugurado con la solemne Eucaristía presidida por su Santidad el Papa Juan
Pablo II, el 10 de febrero de 1996. En uno de los sótanos de la Iglesia, se
encuentra el Museo Coromoto, donde se conserva a la vista del público, pero
tras un cristal, la vestimenta y objetos que utilizó el Papa Juan Pablo II en
dicha eucaristía, así como sus enseres personales. Posteriormente, en octubre
de 2007, el templo fue elevado a categoría de Basílica Menor, por el Papa
Benedicto XVI.

La
arquitectura de la Basílica, es
sumamente moderna e impactante, aunque de gran sencillez. Uno se
sorprende al ver emerger de pronto la impresionante edificación entre jardines
y garceros. Con acabado en obra limpia, tiene en sus paredes bajos relieves que
recuerdan escenas de la aparición de la Virgen. En su entrada, se tiene la
sensación de estar entrando en una pirámide (si amplía la foto puede observar
los grabados). Y al entrar, se abre a los ojos un inmenso espacio, raudales de
luz y color entran por los inmensos vitrales que la adornan. Vitrales que igualmente
recuerdan la historia de la Virgen y Coromoto y en otros, puede apreciarse la
imagen de varias de las vírgenes venezolanas y extrajeras, así como variedad de
imágenes religiosas. En horas diurnas, no es necesaria la luz artificial para
iluminar el templo.
La
estructura de mucha altura, tiene líneas rectas y curvas en asombrosa armonía.
Los adornos internos son bastante sobrios y a la vez modernos, predominando el
hierro forjado y los cristales de colores, que se observan en la preciosa cruz
que preside el altar, el halo de luz de la imagen de la Virgen y demás
ornamentos del lugar. La reliquia está ubicada en el centro del altar, pero con
muros que la disimulan y tiene acceso por la parte trasera, en un angosto
pasillo. Tiene un aviso de prohibición de tomar fotos, lo cual no es respetado
por muchos, sin darse cuenta que hay que extremar los cuidados para preservar
la santa imagen.
Sobre
el sitio de aparición de la Virgen, se construyó "una estructura única en
el mundo, llamada doble hiperboloide elíptico conocida también como cimborrio.
En la girola se aprecian los vitrales, obra del artista Guillermo Márquez,
quien desarrolló un sistema nuevo de montajes en nervios de concreto" .
"La cruz de vitral, que mide 110 metros cuadrados, simboliza la Santísima
Trinidad y todo su poderío en un triángulo. Dios Padre reflejado con las manos,
Cristo crucificado, y el Espíritu Santo en forma de paloma, todo esto está
adornado con motivos llaneros, muchas flores, ramas, palmas, como la flora de
Portuguesa, para darle propiedad". La foto que ofrecemos no refleja estos
detalles, por ser de una cámara doméstica, además al momento de visitar el
templo, era casi mediodía y el contraluz
no permitió tomar mejores imágenes de estas entradas de luz.
Algo
más consideramos relevante para comentar y es la significación de las formas
estructurales que se aprecian en la edificación y que hemos recogido de las
fuentes consultadas: Por fuera, semeja un barco y la "girola", dicen los guanareños
que representa el velo de la Virgen. Por dentro, el altar, además de parecer o
representar un bohío, arquitectónicamente en unión con el cimborrio antes
mencionado, representa la Mitra Papal.
Según
Gaceta Oficial número 34.148, con fecha 31 de enero de 1989, el Santuario
Nacional Nuestra Señora de Coromoto fue declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional.
Guanare, estado Portuguesa, Ciudad Espiritual de Venezuela, tierra bendita que
guarda en su seno el tesoro sagrado de la reliquia de la Santa Virgen Llanera y
de su paso por tierra venezolana!!!

We continue
walking and knowing the culture and history of the Portuguese state. The Shrine
of our patron saint, is one of the most important places in the state, not only
by faith and for being a place of pilgrimage worldwide, but for its incredible
architecture.
The National
Shrine of the Virgin of Coromoto, built on the site of the second occurrence,
where the Coromoto Indian hut and his wife, near the city of Guanare, Venezuela
Capital Spiritual stood.
We have
collected information from various websites on the history of this impressive
structure. We offer below a summary of what we found most interesting
observation:
The Bishop of
Guanare, Monsignor Angel Polanchini, in 1975 invited the Congregation of the
Servants of the Blessed Sacrament to found the Retreat House Our Lady of
Coromoto. It was then, when this group of nuns take the initiative to bring the
proposal to Rome for the creation of a temple in veneration of the Virgin of
Coromoto.
The imposing
building, four thousand square meters and varying height between 68 Y76 meters,
designed by Erasmo Calvani, began in 1982, and its implementation some economic
difficulties arose, given the magnitude of the work and the 200 hectares that
make up the temple property. Additionally, the area had serious drainage
problems that delayed the completion of the work, but which were subsequently
corrected with the construction of the dam Tucupido. The work finally ended in
1996, 14 years after the start.
The building
consists of three main parts. On the first floor is the main altar, shaped hut
with wonderful windows of Guillermo Marquez, where the history of the Virgin is
depicted in portugueseña land. On the left side is the Blessed Sacrament Altar
Reserve. On the right, the Altar of San Juan Bautista. It also has a metal
gazebo, 32 meters high, where the plain can be seen in all its magnificence.
The temple of
4000 square meters, can accommodate 2,500 people, and has a huge parking lot
and green areas around, ideal for rest and recharge their batteries. On October
7, 1944, S. S. Pius XXII, told our Llanera Virgin, "Celeste and Principal
Patroness of the entire Republic of Venezuela," his canonical coronation
was held in 1952.
The Votive
Temple of Guanare, was consecrated as National Sanctuary of Our Lady of
Coromoto on January 7, 1996, and inaugurated with a solemn Eucharist presided
by His Holiness Pope John Paul II on 10 February 1996. In one of the cellars of
the Church, it is the Coromoto Museum, where it is kept to the public eye, but
behind glass, clothing and objects used by the Pope John Paul II in this
Eucharist, and their personal belongings. Subsequently, in October 2007, the
temple was elevated to the rank of Minor Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.

The architecture
of the Basilica, is very modern and impressive, although of great simplicity.
One is surprised to see emerge suddenly impressive gardens and garceros
building. With clean finish work, it has in its lower wall reliefs scenes
reminiscent of the apparition of the Virgin. At its entrance, you get the
feeling of entering a pyramid (if you expand photo can see the engravings). And
entering the eyes opens a huge space, streams of light and color come through
the huge windows that adorn it. Stained glass windows also remember the story
of the Virgin and Coromoto and others, it can be seen the image of several
Venezuelan and extrajeras virgins and variety of religious images. In daytime,
the artificial light is needed to illuminate the temple.
The structure
very tall, has straight lines and curves in amazing harmony. Internal trims are
quite sober and the modern time, predominantly wrought iron and colored glass,
seen in the precious cross presiding over the altar, the halo of light from the
image of the Virgin and other ornaments place. The relic is located in the
center of the altar, but with walls that hide and has access from the rear, in
a narrow hallway. It has a prohibition notice to take photos, which is not
respected by many, not realizing that you have to be extremely careful to
preserve the holy image.
On the site of
apparition of the Virgin, "a unique structure in the world, called double
elliptical hyperboloid also known as dome. In the ambulatory the windows are
seen by the artist Guillermo Marquez, who developed a new system assemblies
built in concrete nerves ". "The cross of stained glass, measuring
110 square meters, symbolizing the Holy Trinity and all his might in a
triangle. Father God reflected hands, crucified Christ and the Holy Spirit as a
dove, all this is adorned with llaneros reasons many flowers, branches, palms,
flora and Portuguese, to give property ". The picture we offer does not
reflect these details, being of a home camera, plus when visiting the temple,
it was almost noon and backlight not allowed to take better pictures of these
inputs light.
Something else
consider relevant for comment and is the significance of structural forms that
can be seen in the building and we have collected from the sources: From the
outside, looks like a boat and "ambulatory" say guanareños
representing the veil Virgin. Inside, the altar, besides looking or represent a
hut, architecturally in conjunction with the aforementioned dome, represents
the Papal Mitra.
According to
Official Gazette number 34,148, dated January 31, 1989, the National Shrine of
Our Lady of Coromoto it was declared a National Historic Landmark. Guanare,
Portuguesa state, Venezuela Spiritual City, blessed land that holds within it
the sacred treasure of the relic of the Holy Virgin Llanera and its passage by
Venezuelan earth !!!
